Position: Nursery Manager

Position Summary

This is a full-time position that requires a working knowledge of Annuals, Perennials, Shrubs and Trees. The position is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the retail operation as it relates to the purchasing, maintaining, and selling of the plant materials and hard goods to our customers. The person in this position also will schedule and direct the nursery staff in performing their duties of taking care of our customers and maintain a safe, clean, organized sales and work area in coordination with the stores general manager.

Key Responsibilities
  • Directly involved with all stages of planning, ordering, preparing, maintaining, monitoring and evaluating the sale of Hardwick Farmers plant materials and lawn and garden hard goods.
  • Responsible for the management of the store plant and lawn and garden product inventories. Keeping what our customers want and maintaining a profitable amount of inventory turns and paying special attention to the shortages, damages and shrink.
  • Interacting with the vendors and staff to make sure the store has the best quality and quantity of plants and other supplies for our customers
  • Recommending and advising our customers on the best plants and products they need to complete their lawn and garden projects.
  • Responsible for training the staff in proper plant care along with teaching effective display and enforcing company policy when needed.
  • Communicate effectively with the general manager on the direction or any problems with the nursery staff, vendors, resources, safety and security of the nursery and store.
  • Work in unison with the buyers that the nursery products overlap with.
  • Keep abreast of the new lawn and garden trends and plant introductions to possibly add to the product mix.
Qualifications:
  • Self motivated, well organized and have a commitment to high quality on work performed.
  • Willing to work and show a positive outlook with the staff and willing to work as part of the team.
  • Able to multi-task with multiple departments and the changing day to day needs of the business.
  • Needs to have good leadership skills along with excellent communication skills and willing to work weekends during the April to June busy season.
